One of the foundation's stated objectives is to provide funding to elderly people and other families in the community. Behind that sentence are individual people, most of them living alone, many of them caring for grandchildren.
The foundation keeps a list of elderly households it returns to, rather than treating each distribution as a fresh start. Returning to the same homes means the team notices change: someone who has grown frailer, a grandchild who has arrived to live there, a household that has stopped being able to cook.
These visits are unhurried by design. Practical support is delivered, but so is company — and for someone living alone, that is not a small part of what is being offered.
